THE GRASS ISN’T ALWAYS GREENER.

When doing anything in life, whether it’s your profession, sports, or just a simple hobby, finding the best place that suits you can make all the difference. However, it can serve as a helpful tool when you look at it from two sides. Is it a good fit for you? Are you a good fit for it?

In life, many factors come into making a long-term decision. We choose to join certain clubs or teams because of our friends. We may even pick a job with terrible hours in exchange for a large paycheck and benefits. What I'm getting at here, is the right environment is subjective. A person who loves what they do might not make a lot of money, but to them, it is the perfect environment. However, in another person's eyes, they could be viewed as crazy. So make your decision, stick with it, and get ready to see how it plays out. 

To find the best fit for you, a couple of questions can be asked about your overall reasoning for being in this environment. The first question is what you are trying to get out of it. Are you looking to use it as a way to reach the next level, or are you comfortable with where you are at? Next, is it something that you want to challenge yourself with? Lastly, are you looking to be in a competitive environment or using it as a way to release stress?

After answering these you can stop there or look at it from the other side of the table. It is the interesting battle of whether to be selfish or selfless when making decisions with you at the forefront. But, at the end of the day, why can't it be both? Think about what exactly you bring to the environment before making the decision. If you aren't fully bought in, is it fair for you to be there when everyone else is? When looking at something through someone else's eyes it can almost make your decision easier. It will also help set you up for the most beneficial environment that meets, and may even exceed your expectations.
