022 | POSITIVE TEAMMATE

A TEAMMATE IS MORE THAN JUST SOMEONE YOU SHARE THE FIELD WITH. SO TREAT IT THAT WAY.

We have all had moments where we want to yell or scream at a teammate. Either they made a mistake, didn't pass you the ball, or even gave you a mouthful. Knowing how to handle these situations can be the difference between positive or negative growth within your team. Everyone should be there for the same reasons, and the main goal should be to help that team be as successful as possible. So what is said on the field should stay on the field. Sure, there are exceptions to this rule, but it's the most beneficial way to look at it for the most part.

The definition of growth is "the process of increasing in physical size." While we mainly think of growth with a positive connotation, it is important to remember that just because something is gaining size in stature doesn't mean it's always good. Words can ruin a relationship quicker than people think. Whether it intends or just taken the wrong way doesn't matter, that's why communication is so important.

Along with communication, actions tend to speak just as loud, if not even louder. Be sure to keep this in mind because it's crucial to pick a teammate up when they are down or lead by example. Everything you do on that field can have a lasting impact. Being a positive teammate means you've created trust with all of the players on your squad. Once that is created, you can start working towards being as successful as possible.

The best part about being a positive teammate is what comes after. No one plays this game forever. But your teammate from when you were playing can be a friend for life. It can be a future godparent, a best friend, or even just a friend you occasionally see on your Facebook page. If anything, that is why being a positive teammate is so important. It leads to success, but it also leads to a more fruitful life after the sport to share with those with whom you shared a love for the game.
