021 | HOW TO MASTER YOUR MINDSET
YOU ARE NOT YOUR THOUGHTS, YOU ARE JUST THE ONE WHO NOTICES THEM.
I’m no psychologist, but based on a quick Google search, you’ll see recent studies have suggested that the average person will have more than 6,000 conscious thoughts in a single day. Research aside, I think we can all agree that the majority of them are negative or counterproductive. Almost all of them are repetitive thoughts that have been rooted into our subconscious from years and years of conditioning. So then, it’s only natural to assume that our thoughts play a primary role into who we are now and who we ultimately have the power to become. But it took years for us to become this way, so that won’t change overnight. It will require conscious, consistent effort.
When a thought enters our brain, we all have a choice to make - let it stick or let it pass. But before we can make that decision, we must bring awareness to each and every thought that we have. We can’t run away from them, so we might as well face them. No thought can be positive or negative until we give that power to it. The question we must ask ourselves is — does this thought serve my greater purpose? Once we can answer that, it becomes much easier to identify the ones that help us and the ones that hurt us.
Where our attention goes, energy flows. To create the reality you envision for yourself, start trying to remember your future. In other words, focus on the thoughts that serve you and disregard the ones that don’t. Sometimes it’s easier said than done, but the more we bring awareness to our own thoughts the stronger we build our mental muscle. With practice, we will eventually see how much of a say we really do have over the outcome of our lives.
We are the gatekeeper of our mind. We may not have control over every thought that passes by, but we have full control over what we allow to enter those gates and into our soul.
